WHAT WE BELIVE

Here’s the Good News

We believe the Bible when it says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is concerned about all matters of right and wrong and some day will declare every person guilty because of their sin. Because He is not only a just God but a merciful God too, He made a rescue plan for us. He asked His Son to become a man and take upon Himself the sins of the world. The Son then suffered His Father’s wrath for all human sin and then was raised to life after three days. When we respond to this amazing plan by believing that Jesus is God’s Son, surrendering to his leadership, and when we are convinced that his death fully satisfied God’s penalty for our sins, God accepts our faith as a substitute for a perfectly lived life. God then ‘saves’ us by clearing our record of sins; adopting us into His family; giving His Spirit to live in us, transform us from the inside out; inviting us to be with Him for all time. It sounds too good to be true but it is what the Bible says. (Romans 3:23; 1 John 2:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:1-6; Romans 4:21-25; Colossians 1:27; John 3:16)

Why Church?

It’s fashionable these days to neglect or dismiss the value of the local church. We believe, however, that the church is dear to God (Acts 20:28). It is the ‘Bride of Christ’ and is at the center of what God wants to do in the world today (Matthew 16:18).

According to the Bible, there are five purposes of the Church:

  • Worship: God made us to worship Him and He wants us to regularly gather to praise and relate to Him as our LORD and Savior.

  • Fellowship: God desires that his church enjoy real Christ-based relationships that meet spiritual and social needs.

  • Growth: God desires that we grow in relationship with Him. The Bible-centered messages, classes, programs, special meetings and the other elements in our ministry all serve the goal of helping people grow and mature in their Christian life.

  • Service: God desires that we learn what gifts He has given us in order to fulfill specific roles within His church. A primary goal of FBC is to train and equip believers to fulfill this purpose.

  • Outreach: God desires that His church communicate His plan for saving spiritually lost people by proclaiming a message that is relevant, bold, and compassionate.

As we do the those five things we will carry out the mission of First Baptist Church of Hart: To Reach People and Enrich Lives for Jesus Christ

Core Values

  • Authority/Sufficiency of the Bible: The Bible is our primary means of knowing who God is and what He has done. It has come from Him and is unique from all other holy books that have ever been written. It speaks for God and to ignore what it says is to ignore God, Himself. Because the Bible is our primary authority it is our job to teach what it says and form opinions which correspond to its precepts. While the Bible doesn’t contain all there is to know, sufficient information IS included to allow us to construct a consistent view of the world that corresponds to God’s view of it. We will take great care to keep everything we teach lined up with what the Bible says. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21; 1 Corinthians 2:16)

  • Relationship with God: We were created for the purpose of having intimate friendship with God for his glory. Sin has broken that relationship. However, Jesus Christ died for our sin so that each of us can again come close to God in a personal relationship (Jn. 17:3; Phil. 3:10). All we need to do is have faith in who Jesus is and what He did for us (Ephesians 2.8-9).

  • Community: God desires that we walk with Him in close connection with one another. This includes encouraging, loving, serving, sharing, praying, sharpening, teaching, submitting, forgiving, and forbearing with one another so that the relationship that God has within the three persons of the Trinity can be visible through us.  Because we value community we emphasize small groups (L.O.F.T. groups and Connect groups).

  • Relevance: Our preaching and teaching has the goal each week to offer specific “take-home” value for our day-to-day lives. God’s Word is sufficient for helping in all aspects of life. We want to be a place where you can share your failures, struggles, and personal pain in order to receive the genuine grace and love Christ has to offer through His people (2 Cor. 9:8; Mt. 5:3; 1 Pet. 5:5, 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:3).

  • Christ Centered: Jesus Christ is the 2nd person of the Trinity and  is the True Leader of this local church and is the one who changes lives and empowers us to live for God’s glory. Therefore our teaching will lift up Jesus and His work above all other things (Col. 1:15-20).

  • Team: The body of Christ has many people and many gifts. God desires that his people work as a team to be the hands and feet of Jesus doing his work together in the world. Therefore our leadership team has the goal to empower others to do the work of the ministry according to their passion and gifted-ness (Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Pet. 4:10-11).

  • Friendliness: We are committed to showing compassion and genuine care to everyone. Every human being has value to God and we will think about each other the same way God does. We are all in this journey together (1 Thess. 5:11-14; Eph. 4:1-7).

  • Growth: God saves us so that we can find our greatest joy in Jesus Christ. When someone is born-again they receive the Holy Spirit within them. He begins to renew the interior of our lives as we cooperate with Him. As this process continues we find ourselves becoming more like Jesus in our character. We begin to look at life through His eyes and discover a brand new reason for living. (Rom. 8:28-29; Gal 4:6; Mt. 28:19-20).
